My career journey has been quite the adventure, hopping from one project to another across different countries and companies. But let’s zoom into where I’m at now: American School Way (ASW)
I kicked off my ASW journey more than five years back as a teacher at the Restrepo branch. Pretty soon, I found myself diving into various projects, like the leveling workshops and others that came my way. I was always up for volunteering because hey, it meant learning something new every time. Oh, and I now remember that time I took part in the Student Exhibition at Corferias! That was a blast! And just before the pandemic hit, I even shot a video to hype up the Ambassadors program. But well, you know how things went down when lockdown hit. Suddenly, I was thrust into the world of online teaching – regular classes, tutorials, English Marathon sessions, you name it. Talk about a rollercoaster ride! But hey, I rolled with the punches, adapting to the students’ changing needs, teaching in the mornings, afternoons – basically whenever they needed me.
Once lockdown eased up, I stuck to online teaching, all while juggling different projects ASW had going on. Then came the curveball: Filbo, the International Book Fair of Bogota, two years back. Can you believe it? Fate had it that I’d cross paths with Nicolas again, my old coordinator from way back when I was at Restrepo. It was wild – two weeks of non-stop hustle, from cracking open the truck at 9:00 am to shutting it down at 8:00 pm and sometimes even later. But you know what? I loved every minute of it. Who says you can’t enjoy a little chaos?
A few months later, I got a call from my boss’s boss – the Ambassador program was back on! This time, it was all about roping in foreigners to come teach about their culture at ASW. I jumped at the chance because seriously, learning a language without diving into the culture is like eating a sandwich without the fillings – just not the same, you know? And guess who was leading the charge? Yup, you guessed it – Nicolas and I were teaming up again. Good thing we’ve got that whole ‘getting along’ thing down pat!
So, when folks ask me if ASW’s got room for growth, I’m living proof that heck yeah, it does! You just gotta roll up your sleeves, dive into some of those projects, and pounce on every opportunity that comes your way.

Crecimiento Profesional en ASW: Mi Trayectoria Laboral.
Comencé mi trayectoria en ASW hace más de cinco años como docente en la sede de Restrepo. Muy pronto me vi inmersa en diversos proyectos, como los talleres de nivelación y otros que se cruzaron en mi camino. Siempre estaba dispuesta a ofrecerme como voluntaria porque, ¿saben? significaba aprender algo nuevo cada vez. ¡Oh, y ahora recuerdo ese momento en el que participé en el Salón Estudiantil en Corferias! ¡Fue genial! Y justo antes de que golpeara la pandemia, incluso grabé un video para promocionar el programa de Embajadores. Pero bueno, ya saben cómo fueron las cosas cuando llegó el confinamiento. De repente, me vi lanzada al mundo de la enseñanza en línea: clases regulares, tutorías, sesiones del English Marathon, lo que sea. ¡Menuda montaña rusa! Pero oigan, me adapté a los cambios y a las necesidades de los estudiantes, enseñando por las mañanas, por las tardes, básicamente cuando me necesitaban.
Una vez que el confinamiento se relajó, seguí enseñando en línea, mientras llevaba diferentes proyectos que ASW tenía en marcha. Luego llegó la sorpresa: Filbo, la Feria Internacional del Libro de Bogotá, hace dos años. ¿Pueden creerlo? El destino quiso que me encontrara de nuevo con Nicolas, mi antiguo coordinador de cuando estaba en Restrepo. Fueron dos semanas de trabajo sin parar, desde abrir la camioneta a las 9:00 a.m. hasta cerrarla a las 8:00 p.m. y a veces incluso más tarde. Pero ¿saben qué? Disfruté cada minuto. ¿Quién dice que no se puede disfrutar un poco del caos?
Unos meses más tarde, recibí una llamada del jefe de mi jefa directa: ¡el programa de Embajadores estaba de vuelta! Esta vez, se trataba de contactar con extranjeros para que vinieran a enseñar sobre su cultura en ASW. Aproveché la oportunidad porque, creo en serio que aprender un idioma sin sumergirse en la cultura es como comer un sándwich sin relleno, simplemente no es lo mismo. Ahora adivinen quién estaba liderando el equipo. Sí, lo adivinaron: Nicolas y yo estábamos trabajando juntos otra vez. ¡Menos mal que nos llevamos bien!
Entonces, cuando la gente me pregunta si ASW tiene espacio para el crecimiento, ¡soy prueba viviente de que sí lo tiene! Solo tienen que arremangarse, sumergirse en algunos proyectos y aprovechar cada oportunidad que se les presente.
