Francesca Mecoli (Tunal):
I was one of the four ambassadors which gave two tours of the National Museum in Bogotá on Wednesday – May 8th, 2024. The tours were held in the morning and in the afternoon. The museum had various collections which displayed the history of Colombia from the pre-Colombian times to the present day. It was a very good experience in which we could share the history of Colombia with our ASW students in English. It was a very interactive experience with various hands on exhibits which piqued the interest and curiosity of the students to broaden the knowledge of their country whilst using English. Overall, it was a great activity which made the students practice their English skills in a new and dynamic context.Dewalt Pieters (Suba):
As a foreigner being in Colombia it has been an amazing experience learning about history in Colombia along with young students that have more to learn about their own history. It has been great witnessing the eagerness of students to learn their history but in a second language. They had great energy towards the excursion and information which made it a very good experience for me as well. I’d gladly share such an experience with students again. Teaching, trips and learning is a great combination for anyone who participates.Richard Oduor (Norte – Toberin):
As an ASW ambassador accompanying students on a tour to Museo Nacional in Bogota, Colombia, I was overwhelmed with pride witnessing their enthusiasm and curiosity as they explored the rich cultural heritage displayed in the museum. It was heartening to see how the students actively engaged with exhibits, fostering language fluency and expanding their vocabulary through meaningful interactions. The museum visit not only provided a platform for language practice but also deepened their understanding of Colombian history and, observing their excitement and eagerness to learn in such an immersive environment reinforced my belief in the power of experiential learning and cultural exchange in ESL education. This tour was truly a transformative experience for both students and ambassadors alike. We have plenty of new ideas for future outings, so don’t forget to follow our social media where all the information about our next activities will be shared soon!
